Tammy’s extraordinary debut novel, A More Perfect Union, heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in Black women’s writing. It is an interracial love story set in pre-Civil War America, and inspired by the true story of the author’s great-great grandparents. Along with love and race, it touches on themes of identity, sacrifice, belonging and survival.
We will host a welcome drink and nibbles from 6:30 to 7:00pm. Tammye will then discuss the book’s background and read from her novel. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session led by Rosa Andújar (Wellesley ’03), Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. Tammye will be available to sign her book afterwards (it will also be possible to buy the book at the event).
Tickets are £30 per person, which includes a welcome drink and nibbles. A cash bar will be open after the discussion.
The ticket price includes a donation to the Barbara Ilias Discovery Grant, which supports students from our colleges attending a study abroad program at a UK university. If you cannot attend the event but wish to donate to the Grant, please choose the DONATION ticket option. Attendees are also welcome to provide additional funds for the grant in this way. (If you require a subsidy on the ticket price to be able to join us, a small discount may be available. Please email the Wellesley Club for more information: WCLondon@alum.wellesley.edu.)
