Dear Harvard Graduate,
As the Lionel de Jersey Harvard Scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge I have the pleasure, together with the Harvard Club of the United Kingdom, of inviting you to the annual Harvard Dinner on Saturday, 22 June 2024 at Emmanuel College.
We are delighted to announce that Robbie Stamp, will deliver the after-dinner talk entitled “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Artificial Intelligence.” He will explore puddles, perspective, paranoid androids, goosebumps and the need to ask the night questions in the first place.
Robbie Stamp is the former CEO of The Digital Village, the company he founded with the late great Douglas Adams way back in the era of the dial-up internet. Stamp was also an executive producer of the movie version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He is currently the CEO of Bioss International Ltd. Chairman of DemocracyNext and a Senior Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Resilient and Sustainable Development. He is history a graduate of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
The dinner offers a wonderful opportunity for Harvard graduates in the United Kingdom and current Harvard students to meet, share memories of Harvard, and enjoy a formal evening in the College from which John Harvard graduated in the 17* century. You will receive a warm welcome from this year’s Harvard-Cambridge Scholars: Isaac Heller, Meredith Johns, Janna Ramadan and me.
The Harvard Dinner is very popular and can seat only one hundred and thirty dinner guests. At times the event is oversubscribed, and replies are handled strictly in the order of receipt online or by email. Therefore, please apply for your places as early as possible before the deadline of Sunday, 9 June. Applications received after the Hall is filled will be placed on a waiting list.
Drinks will be served from six forty-five in the Master’s Garden or, in case of rain, in the Old Library. Dinner will commence promptly at seven thirty in Emmanuel Hall. Dress is Black tie.
If you are planning to spend a night or weekend in Cambridge, we recommend that you arrange accommodation now. June is peak season for Cambridge hotels.
We hope you are able to join us at the dinner where the Harvard Club of the United Kingdom, my fellow scholars and I very much look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Harvard Club of the United Kingdom Past President, Joan Porter Maclver, who is also the Club’s Harvard Dinner coordinator. Please note a strict deadline of 9 June, and as a courtesy to the Master’s and Development Offices at Emmanuel College, which help us so devotedly with this event, we ask that you adhere to this request.
