Join us on Saturday the 26th of April for a walking tour of Southwark Borough where John Harvard grew up prior to emigrating across the Atlantic. We’ll start off at the illustrious Southwark Cathedral (please click here for directions) and make our way past several famous places such as the delectable Borough Market, the Shard and the Clink Prison Museum.
Agenda:
2:00 pm Walking tour [90 minutes]
4:00 pm Choral Evensong at Southwark Cathedral [60 minutes]
5:00 pm Drinks with the Dean of Southwark Cathedral, the Very Reverend Dr Mark Oakley
Cost:
£10 per person
BOOKING: Evensong and Drinks with the Dean are free for walking tour participants, but please add these items to your basket before checking out in order to reserve a spot so we can account for the group size.
Southwark Cathedral Donation:
Given our strong connection with the cathedral, we would encourage attendees to make a donation to further support the cathedral’s ministry, music, heritage and outreach by clicking here and indicating if they are Gift Aid eligible.
John Harvard Library Donation
As alumni of one of the most famous educational institutions in the world, we would like to encourage tour attendees to bring along any print or AV media they are willing to part with. Southwark Libraries can accept small electronics such as phones and tablets, books and DVDs -where the item has been classified by the British Board of Film Classification. Sadly they do not accept academic journals.
Dress Code:
While Southwark Cathedral is a tourist attraction, it is also an active place of worship of the Church of England so please be mindful of this. The walk will be on mostly level ground with frequent stops but will last 90 minutes so please wear comfortable footwear. Remember we are in England so please don’t forget your jacket, sunglasses and umbrella. We would love to see everyone in their Harvard Crimson!
